Terms of service

These terms apply when you download, install, or subscribe to ACDO. We have kept them short and readable on purpose.
1. What you are getting
A subscription to ACDO gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and run the software on the number of computers your plan allows — 1 for ACDO Solo — for as long as your subscription is active. You are licensing the software, not buying it.
2. Your books belong to you
Everything you enter into ACDO is yours. It is stored on your own computer in a standard database file. We claim no rights over it, we have no access to it, and ending your subscription does not delete it or make it unreadable.
3. Trial
ACDO runs for 14 days without a subscription so you can evaluate it. When the trial ends the application stops opening. Your data remains on your computer and becomes available again as soon as you subscribe.
4. Subscription and payment
- Subscriptions renew automatically — monthly or yearly, as you chose — until you cancel.
- Payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. Sales tax is applied at checkout based on your billing location.
- You can cancel at any time. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- If a payment fails, we will contact you before access ends.
- Refunds are covered by the refund policy, which forms part of these terms.
5. Licence validation
ACDO checks periodically that your subscription is active. It does not need a constant connection: once validated it continues working offline for 14 days before it needs to check again. If it cannot reach us for longer than that, it stops opening until it can.
Deliberately interfering with licence validation — tampering with the software, falsifying a device identifier, or setting your system clock backwards to extend access — ends your licence without refund.
6. What you may not do
- Share, resell, rent or sublicense your licence key
- Run ACDO on more computers than your plan allows
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or modify the software, except where Canadian law expressly permits it despite this clause
- Use ACDO to break the law
7. What ACDO is not
ACDO is bookkeeping software, not an accountant and not a tax adviser. It does not file returns, does not give tax or legal advice, and does not check that your books comply with any standard or regulation. Those remain your responsibility and your accountant’s.
8. Backups
Because your data is on your computer, backing it up is your responsibility. We cannot restore a file we have never had. Keep a copy somewhere other than the machine ACDO runs on.
9. Availability
We aim to keep the licence server available at all times, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. The 14-day offline window exists precisely so that an outage on our side does not stop you working.
10. Updates
While your subscription is active you receive updates as we release them. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you rely on, we will say so before it happens rather than after.
11. Warranty and liability
ACDO is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those that Canadian consumer protection law does not allow us to exclude. To the extent the law permits, our total liability for any claim relating to ACDO is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Ending the agreement
You may cancel at any time, for any reason. We may suspend or end your licence if you break these terms in a material way — in which case we will tell you what you have done and, where the problem can be fixed, give you a chance to fix it first.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we will email you before the change takes effect. Continuing to use ACDO after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, cancel and we will refund the unused part of your current term.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and by the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Nothing here removes any right you have under the consumer protection law of the province you live in.
